Retiro & La Recoleta Free Walking Tour
Discover the streets and monuments of two of the most stately and imposing neighborhoods of Buenos Aires with this free tour of Retiro & La Recoleta.
Retiro & La Recoleta Free Walking Tour
At 9 am, we'll meet at the monument to San Martín in the plaza of the same name to begin the free tour of Retiro & La Recoleta, during which we'll stroll through every corner of these two neighborhoods.
Together with our guide, we'll learn about the origins of the city of Buenos Aires as a Spanish colony and how Argentina managed to declare itself a free country. Is it true that an army left the Argentine capital to liberate part of this continent?
We'll also visit the Retiro railway station, built between 1909 and 1915 with materials entirely imported from England. Did you know that this is the largest train station in Argentina? There, the guide will tell us about the mass European immigration that took place in the early 20th century that forever marked the history of the country.
The tour continues with a walk through the most beautiful streets of Recoleta where we'll admire palaces boasting French architecture. As we marvel at the stately architecture of some of the buildings, we'll tell you all about the wealthy families who, upon returning from Paris, wanted to construct buildings in the same French style.
Then, after two and a half hours of exploring, we'll finish the free tour of Retiro & La Recoleta in a charming square in the vicinity of the famous La Recoleta Cemetery.
