Public holidays and festivals

  • New Year: 1 January.
  • Carnival Monday and Tuesday: variable dates.
  • Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice: 24 March. A public holiday held on the anniversary of the 1976 coup d'état commemorating the 30,000 victims of the Dirty War.
  • Good Friday: variable dates.
  • Day of the Veterans and Fallen of the Falklands War (Malvinas Day): 2 April. A public holiday in commemoration of the soldiers who fought to keep the Falklands Islands in the territory of Argentina.
  • Worker's Day: 1 May.
  • The Anniversary of the First National Government: 25 May. Commemoration of the May Revolution that took place in Buenos Aires on 25 May 1810, which would begin the process of the emergence of the Argentine state.
  • Day of the National Flag: 20 June. Commemoration of the death of one of the main instigators of Argentina's independence and creator of the country's flag.
  • Independence Day: 9 July. Celebration of the independence of the Republic of Argentina 9 July 1816.
  • San Martin's Day: 17 August. A public holiday held on the anniversary of the death of General José de San Martín, whose military campaigns played a decisive role in the independence of Argentina, Chile, and Peru.
  • National Sovereignty Day: 20 November. Commemoration of the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado, in which the Argentines managed to repel the attack from the Anglo-French army.
  • Day of the Immaculate Conception: 8 December.
  • Christmas: 25 December.
